Meet My Pets: Charlie
Welcome back to Meet My Pets! Today, we’re going to take a closer look at my goofy, clumsy, berzerk boy, Charlie.
We adopted our sweet boy in December of 2018. We had been married for a year, and little old Sophie was an “only child”. She’d had troubles getting along with my college roommate’s cat, so getting another kitty wasn’t even on my radar. I was working a long day at the cupcake shop when I got a text from Dan, reading “Hey, there’s a kitty that needs to be adopted, would you be cool with testing Sophie out with it?” I was not ready for such a request, but seeing as he described it as a “test night”, I figured there wasn’t any harm. Then he sent me this picture, which of course could only persuade me more.
Those first few days with young Charlie were especially tricky (yup, that’s right, after the “test night”, he never left!). We were both working full time (more than that, personally), and Chuck was only a few months old, and VERY rambunctious. We were used to Sophie’s little-old-lady mannerisms, and suddenly we had an incredibly agile toddler in the house! And during Christmas tree season, no less. We had ourselves a troublemaker!
Since then, he and Sophie have started to get along much better! Particularly over the past six months, due to quarantine causing Daniel and I to be able to stay home and work with them all day, every day. I don’t think they’ll ever really be besties, as Charlie is just too giant and energetic for little old Sophie, but I’ve caught them sleeping on the same bed, rolling in catnip together, and even play-pouncing now and again. I even caught them nicely sharing their Dad’s attention once!
Though we’ll probably never know for sure, we’re fairly certain he’s a Norwegian Forest cat, at least partially. He has many features directly related to the breed - an insane amount of energy, larger than average size, a thick double coat of long fur, a triangular head with a strong chin, and cute tufty ears! He also loved the snow, which I felt like just made sense for this hearty viking breed.
Charlie also, unlike most cats, doesn’t hate wearing clothes (and like most cats, looks incredible in them). Just look at this dapper fellow!
Charlie is generally fairly well-behaved when it comes to food, and won’t usually try to grab from your plate or beg too much. He’s more toy-motivated, trying to play with anything that looks remotely like a toy (or even if it doesn’t…). There was one time however, when we came home from a walk in the park to find that he’d pulled a bag of onion hamburger buns out of the pantry and taken multiple bites out of them! What a weirdo! And don’t worry, he’s a tough little boy, and didn’t get sick at all.
While he doesn’t do it too often, I LOVE IT when he bleps. That little pink tongue is everything.
He’s also quite a bendy boy! He loves to sleep on his back with his little feeties up in the air, and we’ve found him in many strange poses that apparently are comfortable...I sure wish I could sleep in that funky of a position without being sore for two days.
One last fun fact for you is that Charlie is almost always making some sort of havoc behind the scenes of my photoshoots! So the next time you see a seemingly picture perfect scene of a fresh salad or a fluffy cake, just picture this little monster behind the camera!
I hope you enjoyed learning about my best boy today, and looking at his sweet, fluffy little face. Have a wonderful day, and give your pets a hug for me!
